Cruel thieves broke into a foodbank set up to help people and families in desperate need. Incredibly they stole items of food alongside valuable cash and electrical devices. Tins of chocolates volunteers had been giving out to families over Christmas were taken, together with food parcels. Oldham Foodbank, which opened in 2012 and is based inside the Three Crowns Centre facing the former Oldham magistrates court in Oldham town centre, is part of a nationwide network of foodbanks supported by charity The Trussell Trust. Like all the others, it works to combat poverty and hunger and is staffed and run by volunteers. The foodbank revealed details of the theft on Twitter. Four valuable iPads were taken alongside a hard-drive, PC tower, cash and the food.
Writing on Twitter the foodbank added: “Any donations to cover the cost to replace items would be gratefully received. We will not let it beat us, open tomorrow with smiles.” Oldham West and Royton MP Jim McMahon said the foodbank helps thousands of desperate people. Last year it distributed 7,435 three-day emergency food supplies across the town.
